REPORT: Ken Hinkley Request Contract Release

Reports are surfacing that Port Adelaide Power coach Ken Hinkley has requested a release from his contract as head coach. Hinkley is expected to become the head coach of the Gold Coast Suns if his request is approved.

Hinkley has been at the helm of the Power since 2013, and currently is contracted until the end of the 2018 season. However, Port Adelaide released a statement last week stating that Hinkley was not set to move.

Tensions in the club have been high ever since Port’s extra time loss to the Eagles in the elimination final. After the game, Power CEO David Koch public ally criticised the commitment of the club.

“If they’re not prepared to win a premiership for this club, we basically don’t want them. Let us know and we’ll trade them” Koch publicly stated.

For the Suns, Hinkley would be set to become the Suns 3rd coach in the club’s career. Hinkley would also come in at an interesting time, being forced to navigate the tricky Gary Ablett situation. In addition, Hinkley would be focused on re-building the club after yet another disappointing season with very little promise.
